Jewel Andrew debuts, West Indies opt to bowl; Nissanka returns for Sri Lanka

The West Indies made three changes for the third and final ODI against Sri Lanka in Pallekele, with Matthew Forde joining the squad and Evin Lewis returning for his first ODI since 2021.

Toss: West Indies chose to bowl against Sri Lanka.

The West Indies won the toss and elected to bowl, with Sri Lanka leading the series 2-0. This match marks the first time Sri Lanka will bat first on a spin-friendly pitch.

Sri Lanka brought back opener Pathum Nissanka and pacer Dilshan Madushanka, leaving out Nishan Madushka and Dunith Wellalage, which means Sri Lanka will go with two frontline seamers for the first time in this series. Captain Charith Asalanka praised Madushka’s mature performance in his debut: "He didn't play as a debutant, he played as a mature player. I think he'll do a lot of things for the country."

For the West Indies, batters Evin Lewis and Jewel Andrew and fast bowler Matthew Forde have been included. Seventeen-year-old Andrew is set to make his international debut, while Lewis returns after a hiatus since July 2021. Alick Athanaze, Romario Shepherd, and Hayden Walsh make way.

The match is being played on a fresh pitch with square boundaries measuring 69 and 71 meters. Conditions favor turn, though it is expected to be slower, with the ball likely skidding on more as the weather cools in the evening. Rain is also a possibility.
